A Healthy You Well Way - Summer Health

imageCWell Way, Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ (M-DCPS) Wellness Program – a division of Risk/Benefits Management, is in full motion with the goal of helping employees maintain healthy and fit lifestyles. Well Way provides employees with information to help encourage wellness-enhancing behaviors all year round.
As we welcome the leisurely days of summer and ease into highly-anticipated summer vacation and travel plans, the temptation to push aside activities that promote wellness and healthy living may be overwhelming. While you vacation and enjoy the warmth of summer, it is important to remember these activities to stay healthy and fit.
Move More – What is the best exercise for you? It’s one that you will actually do consistently, so choose something and stick with it.
Cover More – To protect yourself from the sun’s harmful rays, use sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher and broad spectrum protection to shield against both UVA and UVB rays from the sun.
Drink More Water – Don’t wait until you are thirsty. Drink water throughout the day to prevent dehydration or over exhaustion.
And remember, summer is a great time to make an appointment with your doctor for your preventive visit. Check-ups, immunizations and screenings can help detect or prevent serious diseases and keep you in tip-top shape. These same medical services are available to M-DCPS employees and eligible family members at the UHealth Medical Center at Miami Jackson Senior High School. The center is open during the summer Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. To make an appointment, visit UHealthDadeSchools.com or call 305-243-CANE (2263). Remember to bring your Cigna ID card.
