Employees Matter Cullen L. Bullock

imageThere is no greater personal fulfillment than to discover your purpose and then be privileged to thrive in a profession that gives you the opportunity to do what you love the most. This experience perfectly illustrates the professional life of educator Cullen L. Bullock. A Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) teacher retiring this year with – hold on to your seats – a half-century of service to the school district. Bullock and other District retirees were honored recently by Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho and the Miami-Dade School Board. After 50 amazing years as an educator, holding various positions from cadre chairperson to student teacher supervisor to swim and water polo coach, Bullock will put away his gradebooks, submit his final lesson plan and turn the page to the next chapter of his life. But those who know him best say that education and children will always be close to his heart and never far from his mission.
A science teacher who is described by friends and colleagues as a lifelong learner, Bullock eagerly shares his thirst for knowledge with others.  It is not uncommon to find him consuming the pages of scholarly journals and articles then sharing what he has read and learned with his students and peers. Considered a teacher leader at Miami Palmetto Senior High School, Bullock always finds time to brainstorm with his colleagues on topics such as differentiated instruction, lab set-up, classroom management and parent contact. His experience and breadth of knowledge have led to creative approaches to teaching and learning and innovative ways to address the evolving landscape of instructional accountability.
“I have found working with children and young people to be immensely rewarding,” says Bullock. “I enjoyed getting to know my students during the year and watching their unbridled excitement as they learned new concepts and theories.”
Miami-Dade County Public Schools is proud of the legacy of excellence Cullen L. Bullock has fostered during his illustrious 50-year career. While he has reached the milestone of retirement and classroom instruction will no longer be part of his day-to-day experience, we know that he will always be a teacher at heart.
